The Irony: Porn vs Startup Conferences

What the finance/startup world could learn from the adult industry

Despite popular belief, the adult industry is just like any other industry. And just like most industries, there are industry conferences. Yup, porn conferences are a thing. There are a couple different adult conferences a year but these can be separated into two categories:

• Industry only conferences (just performers and companies) 

• Fan based conferences (fans, performers and companies) 

The first adult conference I attended was Xbiz Miami in 2021. I had decided to go quite last minute, and didn’t really know what to expect at all. The only other conferences I had been to before were tech/startup conferences. Due to my past negative experiences at some of these startup conferences, I almost didn’t want to go to Xbiz. Thankfully, I did and was pleasantly surprised to have attended a conference for the first time in my life where I was not sexually harassed or having to deal with sexism. This was kind of ironic considering society's misconceptions and ideas about the adult industry.
